I purchased my first 4×4 in 1991 after being stranded during a big Nor’easter in Pennsylvania while driving my 2 wheel drive Dodge van. The guy who recovered me told me to get a 4×4 and not worry about the snow again… boy was he wrong.
I found a 1976 Dodge Ram Charger 4×4 and proceeded to build my first off-road Beast. Custom stainless steel tube bumpers, big Super Swamper Boggers, cut-out fenders, KC off-road lights, and a lift, and I always carried a heavy-duty tow chain. Boy did I have a lot to learn?

I’ve gone thru a few 4×4’s over the years, 1978 Plymouth Trail Duster, 1963 GMC step side, 2000 Dodge Durango, and 2006 Jeep Wrangler. All while honing my off-roading and recovery skills, both for self-recovery and for others.
Since that fateful day when I was stuck in the snow and told to get a 4×4, I’ve been trying to help others in the same way. From helping the occasional driver back on the road, to changing a tire for a damsel in distress. I’ve always been one to lend a helping hand to someone in trouble, on the road, or on the trail.
I’ve gathered the best recovery gear that will hold up to abuse and be safe to use. Everything from synthetic winch rope to soft shackles. With my knowledge of rope rigging gained from my past years of rock climbing and rappelling, I can safely rig any recovery, even if it means redirecting the pull from a different direction.

Currently, I have a 2018 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon fully equipped with front and rear 12000lb winch, lockers, 5.38 gears, 5″ RockKrawler lift, rolling on 38″ tires. With a vast inventory of top-notch recovery gear. A long way from the beginning of just a deadly tow chain.
